Spend one day trip in the jungle village of Tangkahan and touch, bath and make friends with the enormous Sumatran elephants and their little ones, by giving them their favorite fruits and sugar cane. Around 8 am after your breakfast in the guest house you will be picked up by a guide with a private car and start your journey through the bumpy roads for the next 60 km.

After a three hours drive you will arrive in the traditional village, where your guide will take you to the riverside and serve you a variety of fruits. Enjoy swimming in the fresh water and a “jungle massage” of the rushing waterfall, as well as, treat yourself in the foggy hot springs close by.

Before heading to the elephant sanctuary you will have lunch in one of the wooden restaurants and try their traditional Indonesian dishes. Just before 3:30 pm we will head to the elephant’s sanctuary and spend the next hour with the impressive giants. There is no doubt that taking a bath with them and playing around with the baby elephants is a memorable experience. They might remember you for the rest of their lives, as well.

After the bathing time your driver will take you back to your hotel in Bukit Lawang. Optionally we can arrange your stay of one or several nights in Tangkahan to enjoy the beauty of nature and relaxing ambience of the eco-friendly village.

The activity with the elephants is run by the companies of Tangkahan Lembaga Pariwisata Tangkahan (LPT) and Conservation Response Unit (CRU), which work closely with villagers to secure private land, bordering Gurung Leuser National Park in order to protect the wildlife.

Taking a bath with the elephants is possible twice a day for one hour (10:30 am / 3:30 pm) On Fridays the activity is not possible and depending on the condition of the elephants there could be cancellations.

Includes both ways drive from Bukit Lawang to Tangkahan and back to the guest house in Bukit Lawang, guide, fruits, lunch, voucher for washing the elephants up to one hour in the Buluh River.
